You can also find rural hanok (traditional courtyard homes) in Gyeongsang-do or Jeolla-do at bargain prices. Expect concrete construction, floor heating (ondol — a genuine comfort in winter), and compact layouts. Seoul is not on the table at this price. Non-Korean speakers face real friction: most real estate transactions happen through local agents with minimal English, and bank accounts for foreigners are harder than they should be.
